What is new/changed?

COMMISSIONER'S DIRECTIVE 566-09 SEARCHING OF CELLS, VEHICLES AND OTHER AREAS OF THE INSTITUTION

Paragraph 6 has been amended to include the requirement that all cells and areas of the institution are to be searched within a 30-day period. Annex 'A' has also been amended to reflect the requirement to complete the search logs and/or reports when performing a search of a vehicle.

Why was the policy changed?

During the last revisions of the policy, these statements were inadvertently excluded. They had been included as requirements in all previous drafts throughout the consultation period.

What is the purpose of the change?

To ensure that the timeframes required for performing searches of cells and areas of the institution are clearly stated in the policy.

How was it developed?

It was developed in collaboration with line staff, and Regional Administrators of Security.

Accountability?

Wardens will ensure that their Search Plans are up to date and accurate, and that every area of the facility is searched within a 30-day period.

Who will be affected by the policy?

All CSC institutions.

Expected cost?

None.

Other impacts?

Will ensure consistency in the execution of Institutional Search Plans.
