POLICY BULLETIN

PDFpdf

What is new/changed?

Commissioner's Directive 860, entitled "Inmate's Money" has been amended to enable Institutional Heads or their delegate to authorize inmates to make withdrawals above the $500 annual limit from their savings account to purchase smoking cessation products if authorized by Health Services, and to delete the provision allowing inmates to purchase computers. CD 860 also incorporates the contents of a March 30, 2000 Interim Instruction related to Room and Board Deductions.

What is the purpose of the change?

To provide inmates with the possibility of purchasing smoking cessation products if authorized by Health Services. This change was undertaken in support of CSC initiatives to limit the effects of second hand smoke on inmates and staff and to promote smoke-free institutions. CSC will undertake consultations on other health-related products.

A second amendment formalizes a recent CSC decision that inmates will no longer be able to purchase computers.

Who will be affected by the policy?

Inmates and CSC staff.

Expected cost?

None.

Other impacts?

None.
