What is new/changed?

STANDARD OPERATING PRACTICES 700-04 - OFFENDER INTAKE ASSESSMENT AND CORRECTIONAL PLANNING

Why was the policy changed?

The modifications complete the response to the internal Intake Assessment Audit and include the requirement to document the intake interview in OMS.

The revised policy includes current practices to conduct employment assessments at intake. A new form entitled "Employment Assessment at Intake", CSC/SCC 1253, has been developed. In addition, minor changes have been made to reflect current case preparation practices.

Paragraph 9 of the SOP has been updated to include the Youth Criminal Justice Act, which came into force April 1, 2003.

How was it developed?

These changes are consistent with the action plan developed in response to the Intake Assessment Audit and approved in June 2001. Consultations occurred with regional staff. Operational units prepared local action plans and follow-up has taken place.

The EEP was approved by the Executive Committee in April 2000 and is being implemented nation-wide. The program's objectives reflect the requirement to address any employment-related deficit which can be a potential barrier to reintegration.

Accountability?

Staff conducting intake assessments are responsible for implementing the various changes to SOP 700-04.

Who will be affected by the policy?

Staff conducting intake assessments.

Expected cost?

This change will incur no additional cost.

Other impacts?

Nil.

Additional Details?

Further information on the EEP can be found in the Case Management Bulletin entitled "Employment and Employability Program", dated April 1, 2003.
