Policy number and title:

Commissioner's Directive 726 - Correctional Programs

Why was the policy changed?

The existing program standards have been replaced with a single, generic set of program standards that apply to all correctional programs.

What has changed?

The revised CD addresses the key features of program management and delivery that are necessary to ensure offenders are provided with programs that meet their level of risk and needs.

How was it developed?

It was developed by a working group consisting of national, regional and operational staff.

Consultations were undertaken with the Executive Committee, members of the Correctional Programs Accreditation Panel, other key stakeholders outside the Service, as well as offenders.

Accountabilities?

Institutional Heads and District Directors are responsible for ensuring the delivery of correctional programs according to the new policy.

Who will be affected by the policy?

Offenders and all staff involved with correctional programs.

Expected cost?

Cost neutral.

Other impacts?

The new CD will form the basis for the revised site accreditation process.
