OTTAWA - It is with shock and a profound sense of loss that we received news of the death of one of our Parole Officers, Ms. Louise Pargeter, of our Yellowknife Parole Office. She died on October 6, 2004, under tragic circumstances while carrying out her duties in the community.

As a Parole Officer, Ms. Pargeter was dedicated to the protection of the public, in one of the most challenging jobs in the country. Her courage and commitment are a testament to the important public service performed by all our front-line staff across the country.

Correctional Service of Canada extends its sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to Louise Pargeter's family, friends and colleagues.

This tragic incident will be the focus of a detailed investigation by the RCMP. Correctional Service of Canada, in cooperation with the National Parole Board, will also be conducting a detailed investigation.
