FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SPECIAL OLYMPIADS AT LECLERC INSTITUTION

LAVAL, QC, July 5, 2005 - Management and staff from Leclerc Institution, a federal medium-security penitentiary, invite media representatives for a media day Friday, July 8, 2005.

During the course of the day and with the help of 60 inmates, the Special Olympiad for disabled children will take place. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the program of activities will include games, lunch and gifts for the children. More than 50 children and approximately 20 assistants and volunteers from the agencies "L'ami du deficient mental" and "La joie des enfants" will be on hand for the event.

Created in 1987, this annual event will take place for the 18th time. Correctional Service Canada is proud to see the Special Olympiads as an opportunity for offenders to demonstrate their reintegration potential and take part in initiatives that benefit the community.

Media representatives should join us between noon and 2 p.m. While confirming your attendance, please indicate your interest to visit the facility.

Leclerc Institution is located at:

400 Montée St-François
Laval, Quebec

For more information and to confirm your attendance, please contact Roger Ménard at (450) 664-1320, extension 5917, no later than Thursday, July 7 before noon. For security measures and to accelerate visitor's entrance, all media representatives will have to show an identity card with photo. All visitors and their personal effects/technical equipment will have to go through regular searches as it is a usual procedure within Correctional Service Canada. Please be informed that no cellular phones are allowed in the institution, however key lockers are available on the premises.
