CIHR recognizes the important role that international collaborations play in improving and advancing the health of Canadians and citizens around the world. As a result, CIHR wishes to encourage Canadian researchers to collaborate internationally in CIHR's priority areas of health research through the International Opportunities Program (IOP). This program offers two types of one-time funding grants, the Development/Planning Grant and the Collaborative Research Project Grant for Canadian researchers in different stages of an international collaboration. These one-time grants will enable Canadian researchers to develop new international collaborations and to participate on major international research projects, gain access to cutting edge research and technologies that are not currently available in Canada, and position CIHR as an international player in health research. Please note that this program does not support ongoing collaborative programs.
Specific Objectives
The International Opportunities Program will assist Canadian researchers to develop and establish new international collaborations with foreign researchers by offering one-time Development/Planning Grants. This one-time grant exists as a mechanism for Canadian researchers to engage in relationship development and explore new international collaborative opportunities in mutual areas of health research priorities to CIHR and/or the Institutes, and the foreign researcher(s).
