Canada Site User
Feedback
The Canada Site actively solicits feedback from its users to ensure the site remains informative, user-friendly, and most importantly, that it reflects the needs of citizens.
Results from user feedback throughout the year influenced the enhancements
we introduced in the newest version of the Canada Site launched in March 2003.
On-line Feedback Forms
Visitors to the Canada Site are encouraged to submit their suggestions on-line through the Tell Us What You Think form to help improve the quality of the site.
Feedback about the Customization feature and the Search Engine can also be submitted through specific on-line forms for that purpose.
On-line Surveys
The Canada Site conducts periodic voluntary on-line surveys to improve the site's format, content, and navigability. The subjects covered in the survey vary from time to time.
As an example, between January 2001 and April 2002, we received more than 8,500 completed surveys.
Satisfaction Usability Research
The Canada Site, through a public opinion research contractor, conducts periodic usability research. The methodologies for this research may include the following:
- On-line pop-up surveys
- Usability testing through interviews
- Focus groups
From July to October 2001, we conducted usability testing on the site through nearly 40 one-on-one interviews with respondents across Canada. This user testing was coupled with six site enhancement focus groups in Toronto, Vancouver and Montréal that involved almost 60 participants.
Accessibility and Usability Review
The Canada Site, through a public opinion research contractor, conducts periodic accessibility testing through in-person observational interviews with users of assistive technologies .
In the fall of 2001, 12 one-on-one in-depth interviews were held in Ottawa and Montréal. This research project also included expert review of the site.
Website Accessibility Testing Service (WATS)
The Website Accessibility Testing Service from the Treasury Board Secretariat tests how accessible a Web site would be for persons with disabilities using their assistive technologies.
The Canada Site underwent two rounds of WATS testing in December 2001 and February 2002. We will continue to use the WATS service as we launch new features through the coming months.
Fairs and Exhibits
Canada Site team members attend various fairs and exhibits across the country each year where they provide visitors with demonstrations and receive feedback on the site.
In a special initiative in 2001, we asked a selection of visitors to the Canada Site booth to participate in a short survey. Participants keyed in their response to a series of questions using special touch keypads. More than 1,200 of these in-touch surveys were completed at 13 fairs and exhibits across Canada.
