CIHR is initiating a process to develop a policy that will promote access to the knowledge and resources generated from CIHR-funded research.
CIHR encourages recipients of research support to make the results of all research publicly available. This principle is similar to policies implemented by other organizations such as the National Institutes of Health, Research Councils United Kingdom, The Wellcome Trust, Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and Genome Canada.
With this policy, CIHR aims to increase access to the discoveries made by CIHR-funded researchers. In particular, CIHR-funded researchers should encourage increased dissemination of products of research, structural and functional data, and peer-reviewed results. CIHR believes that timely access to research products and materials, and information will stimulate the development of new health products that will benefit the health of Canadians as well as the global population.
