Canadian Transportation Agency to Hold a Technical Briefing for Reporters on its Decision Concerning Ferroequus and CN

WINNIPEG - September 9, 2002 - The Canadian Transportation Agency will hold a technical briefing for members of the news media in Winnipeg on Tuesday, September 10, 2002, on its decision concerning an application by the Ferroequus Railway Company for the right to run and operate trains, in order to haul grain, over specified lines of Canadian National (CN) between the Camrose, Alberta interchange and the Port of Prince Rupert, British Columbia.

Journalists who cannot attend the technical briefing in Winnipeg may participate via teleconference by registering at 1-800-427-6791 starting at 1:15 p.m. (local - Winnipeg - time) on September 10. The decision and all media-related documentation available to journalists in Winnipeg will be posted on the Agency's Web site at www.cta.gc.ca to coincide with the beginning of the briefing.

IMPORTANT NOTE TO ASSIGNMENT EDITORS

The Canadian Transportation Agency is an independent, federal quasi-judicial tribunal. It has, in law, all the powers, rights and privileges of a superior court. As such, Agency members who sat on the panel and heard the arguments of the parties will NOT answer reporters' questions. While the decision itself contains a comprehensive analysis of the issues and the positions of the parties, legal and technical experts from the Agency will take reporters through the decision and answer their questions. Cameras and tape recorders will be permitted in the briefing room.
