Food Guide Revision

Health Canada is updating Canada's Food Guide. The decision to revise the Food Guide was announced in March of 2004, after Health Canada conducted a thorough review of the current Guide.

The process to revise the Food Guide is evidence-based, open, and linked to public health priorities.

Throughout the revision, Health Canada has consulted with Canadians from coast to coast including non-government organizations, academics, health professionals, government, industry and consumers.

Health Canada is also working closely with three advisory groups: an external Food Guide Advisory Committee, an Interdepartmental Working Group and a Dietary Reference Intakes Committee. Final decisions related to the content of the Food Guide rest with Health Canada.

Where Are We in the Process?

Health Canada is now reviewing input received during our spring consultations and will be making revisions to the draft Guide as appropriate. Health Canada expects to release the revised Food Guide in early 2007.

Can I continue to use the current Food Guide while a revision is underway?

Yes. The current Canada's Food Guide continues to provide dietary guidance that is scientifically sound and remains a useful tool for providing Canadians with a pattern of healthy eating.
