Regulation

Health Canada is responsible for establishing standards and policies governing the safety and nutritional quality of foods sold in Canada. The mechanism by which Health Canada controls the sale of novel foods in Canada is a mandatory premarket notification procedure described under Division 28 of the Food and Drug Regulations. Division 28 is also referred to as the Novel Foods Regulation.

Also see the Novel Foods Guidelines and Policies section, which provides guidance on how the department interprets and applies the Regulation and its related policies.
