COMPENSATION DIRECTIVE: 1999-004

February 9, 1999

SUBJECT: EQUALIZATION ADJUSTMENT FOR CLINICAL SOCIAL WORKERS

1

PURPOSE

1.1 The purpose of this directive is to provide departments with information and processing instructions concerning the increase in the equalization adjustment amount for the Clinical Social Workers (BUD 22602).

1.2 In this text, use of the masculine is generic and applies to both men and women.

2 BACKGROUND
2.1 This directive is to be read in conjunction with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's letter to the Directors of Human Resources dated December 22, 1998 entitled "Administrative procedures for revising equalization adjustments for the Clinical Social Workers". As set out under the terms and conditions of the pay equity settlement reached with the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada in June 1996, the ongoing equalization payments are subject to the economic increases applicable to the Social Work Group.

3

POLICY

3.1 As a result of economic increases in the new collective agreement for the Clinical Social Workers, signed on November 5, 1998, the ongoing equalization amount will be increased effective October 1, 1997 by 2.5 % and October 1, 1998 by 2 %.

3.2 The revised annual adjustment amounts are as follows:

CLASS AND LEVEL OLD RATE OCT. 1, 1997 OCT. 1, 1998
SW-SCW-01 $10,500.00 $10,763.00 $10,978.00
SW-SCW-02 $8,500.00 $8,713.00 $8,887.00
SW-SCW-03 $6,000.00 $6,150.00 $6,273.00

4 PROCEDURES
4.1 Due to the minimum number of employees affected, departments are requested to report the necessary transactions to adjust both the ongoing equalization amount and to request the applicable retroactivity. These transactions are to be reported using an Entitlement Amend (ENA) on-line screen.

5

INQUIRIES

5.1 Any request for information regarding the foregoing should be addressed to your Public Works and Government Services Canada Compensation Services Office.
