COMPENSATION DIRECTIVE: 1999-012

SUBJECT: Student Employment Programs 1999

1

PURPOSE

1.1 The purpose of this directive is to provide you with the revised bargaining unit designator (BUD) code structure for students employed under one of the student employment programs designated by the Treasury Board .

1.2 In this text, use of the masculine is generic and applies to both men and women.

CANCELLATION

2.1 This supersedes Compensation Directive 1998-007 dated March 19, 1998.

BACKGROUND

3.1 On August 25, 1998, Treasury Board ministers approved major revisions to the Student Employment Policy, the Student Employment Programs in the Federal Government and the Terms and Conditions of Employment for Students.

The changes to these documents are effective January 1, 1999 and replace the versions dated January 1, 1998.
The new documents are available on the Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS) Internet Site (www.tbs-sct.gc.ca) at the following address:

4 POLICY
4.1 The student policies apply to departments and agencies listed in Schedule 1, Part 1 of the Public Service Staff Relations Act.

5 PROCEDURES/INSTRUCTIONS
5.1 The current Student pay structure has been modified to conform to the new provisions. The revised structure for the various student employment programs is as follows:

5.2 The Learning Award for Co-op students (entitlement code 135) has been eliminated and encompassed in the new pay structure.

5.3 The revised salary scales and BUD code structure were updated to the Pay Rates Control File on February 9, 1999, and are now operational in the Regional Pay System.
