Clarification of Compensation Directive 2002-019 in Terms of the Roles and Responsibilities

COMPENSATION COMMUNIQUÉ

December 3, 2003

SUBJECT: Clarification of Compensation Directive 2002-019 in Terms of the Roles and Responsibilities

This is to clarify the intent of the Compensation Directive 2002-019 issued on July 31, 2002, in terms of roles and responsibilities.
Effective July 31, 2002, the Superannuation Directorate assumed the responsibility to review and correct all Contributor System salary and service rejects resulting from Regional Pay System (RPS) transactions. Contributor System salary and service rejects resulting from input via the Pension Support System (PSS) will be displayed with a source indicator (SI) of "OL", and will  continue to be the responsibility of the individual who initiated the transaction (i.e. a compensation advisor or a pension counselor at the Superannuation Directorate).
Effective November 19, 2003, Contributor System salary rejects resulting from RPS transactions will be displayed on the PSS with an SI of "44" and the reject message associated with the transaction. The Superannuation Directorate has the prime responsibility to review and correct these rejects, but by displaying the rejected transaction on the PSS, the compensation advisor will be aware there is an outstanding reject that the Superannuation Directorate will be reviewing and correcting. Once the transaction is corrected, the reject will no longer be visible on the PSS.
When an employee has a request that requires access to accurate data, such as a pension estimate, the compensation advisor can attempt to correct the salary reject, via the PSS, in order to provide the service requested by the employee in a timely manner. However, the reason the transaction rejected in the first place may not have been corrected and the compensation advisor may have to contact the Superannuation Directorate to raise the priority for the account in question.
Any inquiries on the information contained in this document should be addressed to Pierre Laviolette, Manager, Improved Pension Administrative Processes Project at (613) 957-8127.
