Integrated Risk Management in Police Organizations: A Strategic ApproachA Strategic Leadership Workshop for Senior Police Executives October 11-13 , 2006 This workshop is offered in English Target Audience This workshop is designed for senior police executives who want to take a more systematic and integrated approach to managing risk in their organizations. The Challenge This course centres on understanding organizational risks for senior police executives. It aims to demonstrate the best use of effective risk management as part of the strategic management of the organization as a whole. Using real-life examples, participants will be challenged to implement risk management strategies to address specific risks. More importantly they will be asked to develop a continuing approach, one that integrates modern risk management techniques into the overall management of the organization. Managing risk is not about reacting quickly to a crisis, but being ready for any event or challenge that will deter the organization from achieving its goals. FACILITATOR: Andrew Graham Andrew Graham is an Adjunct Professor in the School of Policy Studies at Queens University. He teaches public management and public finance. He was formerly with the federal public service, serving in a variety of operational, planning, policy advisory and corporate management roles. His last posting was as Assistant Deputy Minister, Corporate Service, Agriculture Canada. Mr. Graham also has been a visiting executive at the Conference Board of Canada involved in a variety of research projects for governments in Canada. Mr. Graham has extensive experience in the criminal justice field, both as a practitioner, e.g. Warden of Kingston Penitentiary and Senior Deputy Commissioner of Corrections Service Canada and as a policy advisor to the Solicitor General of Canada. This workshop will be offered on the Ottawa campus of the Canadian Police College (CPC). The CPC Police Executive Centre offers an intimate and thought-provoking environment, designed to meet the needs of senior police decision makers. The workshop will commence at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 11, 2006 and will conclude on Friday, October 13, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. Dynamic guest speakers will join participants and lead informal discussions on topics related to Integrated Risk Management in Police Organizations.
