Open Systems Interconnection
Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) is an internationally standardized
architecture that permits communications between different types
of computer systems.
For OSI to operate successfully, information objects must have
unique, unambiguous names and addresses. The Canadian OSI Registration
Authority (COSIRA) maintains Canada's official registry of OSI objects.
OSI registration is available
to Canadian industry, service providers, universities, federal government
departments and partners in the provincial governments.
COSIRA offers
registration of the various OSI information objects:
- Network layer Services Access Point (NSAP) address;
- Object IDentifier (OID);
- X.400 ADministrative Management Domain name (ADMD) and PRivate
Management Domain name (PRMD);
- X.500 Distinguished Name (DN) and Relative Distinguished Name
(RDN).
