Recovery of Funds
On March 11, 2005, the Government of Canada filed a Statement of Claim (Claim for the Recovery of Funds) in the Quebec Superior Court against a total of 19 defendants for $40.8M, related to the Sponsorship Program.
The Claim has been amended three times, most recently in May 2006. As a result of these amendments and settlements with some defendants, the Government is now claiming a revised total amount of $62M against 28 defendants.
This amount does not include the $2.7M that has already been recovered through settlement agreements and the $1.1M remitted voluntarily by the Liberal Party of Canada as a result of the findings of the Gomery Report.
