Regional Director General, Vija Poruks

Ms. Poruks was appointed as the Regional Director General of PWGSC Ontario Region in October 2006. Prior to her appointment, and for the previous five years, Ms. Poruks was the Regional Director, Real Property Professional and Technical Services, in the PWGSC Pacific Region.

Ms. Poruks holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alberta, and a Senior Level Certificate from the Government of Canada Professional Purchaser Program.

She is a seasoned executive with many years of experience with several government departments including Transport Canada, Fisheries and Oceans and most recently, Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC).

Her Public Service career started in 1982 with Transport Canada where she worked in procurement, materiel management, and all aspects of the contracting cycle, leading to the position of Regional Manager of Materiel, Contracting, and Facilities Services in 1991.

Since then, she held various and progressively more responsible positions in the fields of accounting, project management, and operational and technical support, until 1999 when she was appointed Regional Director of Technical Services in Fisheries and Oceans, Pacific Region (Canadian Coast Guard) and had responsibility for electronics engineering, vessel repair, and facilities management.
