Perinatal Tracking and Reporting

Health Canada is working to reduce the adverse outcomes associated with pregnancy and childbirth, through recommendations intended to reduce infant morbidity and mortality. To meet this goal, our department collects data on all recognized pregnancies, regardless of their outcome. If the pregnancy results in a live birth, we also track the infant's health during the first year of life.

In keeping with its commitment to contribute to improved health for pregnant women, mothers and infants in Canada, Health Canada works in collaboration with the Public Health Agency of Canada who administers the New Window Canadian Perinatal Surveillance System (CPSS), an ongoing national health surveillance program.
