F A Q -RETOS

(Frequently Asked Questions)

Is the RE-TOS system year 2000 ready?

Yes. It is recommended that you change your PC Short Date Format to reflect a four-digit year, mm/dd/yy to mm/dd/yyyy - this is a Windows user preference. However, if this small change is not made, 01/01/2000 will read 01/01/00. This change can be made from the Windows Control Panel and is specific to your individual PC configuration.

How do I change the RE-TOS date format to yyyy/mm/dd?

You cannot. The RE-TOS application has no way of changing the date format as it reads your PC configuration files to determine your preference. If the current date format is not your preference, then you must make the changes from within Windows from the Control Panel settings.

Who is the system administrator?

The system administrator is the person(s) who installed the RE-TOS system on your PC or LAN. Alternatively, it could be a member of your technical support team or supervisor. The name of the person who installed the RE-TOS system can be found on the "About" box from the "Help" menu selection. If there is no administrator name listed, it is because it was installed on a local drive only or the system was not able to access the network user names.

Who has the system password?

The System Administrator would have the RE-TOS system password. The last person, date and time the password was changed is displayed in the "Security Administration" selection from the main "File" menu selection.

Rates have changed.
Is RE-TOS re-released with the new rates?

There is no new RE-TOS version with rate changes. The RE-TOS system is not re-released every time there are rate changes. Rate changes to the tables and updates are not the responsibility of the RE-TOS program and changes are made manually. This is routinely authorized and completed by the System Administrator of your system. Before this can be done the administrator will need to obtain the rate change information.

How do I update the RE-TOS System tables?

The RE-TOS System tables can only be updated or edited by the RE-TOS system administrator. The administrator will need the system password to gain this access to the system. For details on making such changes see RE-TOS - Updating the System Tables. Prior to making changes, the system administrator or person making the changes to the tables will require the rate change information. This information is usually available by mid-December.

Where do I get the information for rate changes?

This information is usually available by mid-December and is provided through Advisory Services. Any request for this information should be addressed to your PWGSC Compensation Services office.

I get the following message: "Database is corrupt". What does this mean ?

This means that some routine maintenance is required by the system. Your administrator should use the compact and repair features to correct this problem.

Other messages that may seem odd are:

"ERROR 3183 & 3026 Not enough disk space".
It means your hard drive or your network drive disk space is low. Contact your LAN Administrator or your technical support.

"ERROR 91 Object variable not set".
This is an indication that the system can not find the database files needed. Sometimes Repair and Compacting is required but often it is a network error. Try re-booting your PC by turning it off and on.

"ERROR 3186, 3046, 3188 Currently locked by user ...".
This is not really a problem: it only means another user is accessing the same record at the same time as you.

"ERROR 3043 Disk or Network error".
This is your PC or network hardware encountering problems.
