Counter-Terrorism Coordination and Health Information Networks (CTCHIN)

Mission of the Counter-Terrorism Coordination and Health Information Networks (CTCHIN) Section:

CTCHIN will work in partnership with relevant stakeholders to raise awareness of, prepare for, coordinate with others and respond to current and emerging issues and threats related to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) events. CTCHIN will provide early warning surveillance and be a resource of information on health related aspects of CBRN.

Role of the Counter-Terrorism Coordination and Health Information Networks (CTCHIN) Section:

As one of Health Canada's many roles in maintaining the health and security of Canadians, the Counter-Terrorism Coordination and Health Information Networks (CTCHIN) Section is responsible for providing accurate and timely information and advice to all interested stakeholders on:

  • health issues and threats related to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) events
  • specific emergency management issues
  • latest research, policies, programs, training, literature and conferences on CRBN issues
  • general health preparedness and response information for the public

The Counter-Terrorism Coordination and Health Information Networks (CTCHIN) Section also collaborates with international agencies to share information and mitigate CBRN incidents.

Global Public Health Intelligence Network (GPHIN)

The Global Public Health Intelligence Network (GPHIN) serves as an "early warning" global surveillance system disseminating information on global public health events through a secure website, on a real-time 24/7 basis. Such accurate and timely information on global health risks is critical to Health Canada's Centre for Emergency Preparedness and Response and other federal organizations.

GPHIN disseminates time-sensitive information to public health professionals worldwide for appropriate risk management, control / prevention and response measures. This information enables GPHIN to support rapid response programs such as the World Health Organization's Global Alert and Response Team.

For more information about GPHIN, please contact GPHIN's Administrator at GPHIN@hc-sc.gc.ca.
