Health Care System

Funding

Health Canada recognizes the importance of responsible and ethical use of new technologies and the significance of scientific innovation to help maintain and improve Canadians' health. To this end, and in support of its regulatory role, our department works with public and private sector partners, through grants, contributions, awards and other collaboration, to explore innovative ways to meet health care needs and to translate these ideas into policies and programs.

Health Canada is not responsible for the funding of Canada's health care system. The federal government provides funding to the provinces and territories for health care services through fiscal transfers.
