ALLERGY ALERT

UNDECLARED SULPHITES IN LE GRAND BRAND SUN-DRIED TOMATO PESTO AND SUN-DRIED TOMATO AND OLIVE SPREADS

OTTAWA, May 27, 2005 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning people with sensitivities to sulphites not to consume Le Grand brand Sun-dried Tomato Pesto and Sun-dried Tomato and Olive Spreads described below. The affected products contain sulphites which are not declared on the label. This alert is of concern to those individuals who have sensitivities to sulphites.

All codes of the following Le Grand brand products are affected by this alert:

Sun-dried Tomato Pesto 7 73798 00005 6 250 mL
Sun-dried Tomato and Olive Spread, mild 7 73798 00006 3 250 mL
Sun-dried Tomato and Olive Spread, spicy 7 73798 00007 0 250 mL

The affected products have been distributed in Quebec and Ontario.

Consumption of these products may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with sensitivities to sulphites. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.
