ALLERGY ALERT

PRESENCE OF UNDECLARED PEANUT IN ODRA BRAND SESAME BASED BARS

OTTAWA, August 12, 1999 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning consumers with an allergy to peanuts not to eat Odra brand Chalva Sesamowa Fantazyjna, Chalva Mleczno-Sezamowa and Chalva Sezamowa o sm. Wanilowym bars imported from Poland as they may contain peanuts that are not declared on the label.

These products have been distributed in Ontario. They are sold in 100 g size with UPC codes 5900407007112, 5900407007259 and 5900407007105, respectively.

The products are manufactured in Poland by Odra Brzeg. They are being voluntarily recalled by the Canadian importers, DELIPOL INC. and POLFOOD TRADING CO., both of Mississauga, Ontario.

Consumers may return these products to the point of purchase for a refund.

Consumption of peanut can cause serious allergic reactions in individuals with an allergy to peanut protein. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
