ALLERGY ALERT
PRESENCE OF UNDECLARED ALMONDS IN IMPORTED
WAFER PIE (PEANUT) PRODUCT
OTTAWA, September 23, 1999 - The Canadian Food Inspection
Agency is warning consumers with an allergy to almonds not to
eat I-Mei brand Wafer Pie (Peanut) product because it
contains almonds which are not declared on the label. This
imported product is sold in foil-wrapped 160 gram packages
and displays UPC 4 710126 020139.
The product is manufactured by I-Mei Foods Company Ltd. in Taiwan and was distributed in
British Columbia and Alberta by Allcity Importers Ltd. of Vancouver. Allcity Importers
Ltd., of Vancouver, is
voluntarily removing the product from the marketplace.
Consumption of this product is of concern only to those
individuals who are allergic to almonds. Consuming almond may
cause serious allergic reactions in individuals with an
allergy to almond protein. There have not been any reported
illnesses associated with this product.
