The following information was released today, November 10, 1999 by Fleetwood Sausage Co. HEALTH HAZARD ALERTIMMEDIATE RECALL OF FLEETWOOD SALAMI PRODUCTSSURREY, B.C. November 10, 1999 -Fleetwood Sausage Company is voluntarily recalling Fleetwood Hungarian Salami due to potential E.coli O157:H7 contamination. As a precautionary measure, the company is also recalling all other Fleetwood Salamis, Swiss Farmer and Landjaeger products. This action is being taken in light of illnesses associated with this bacteria reported in British Columbia. Consumers should not consume any of these Fleetwood products. They should return the product to the store where it was purchased for a refund. E.coli O157:H7 may cause serious and potentially life threatening illness by producing a toxin that can break down the lining of the intestine and damage the kidneys. Food contaminated with E.coli bacteria will not look or smell spoiled. These products are distributed in Western Canada, and in Ontario as far east as Thunder Bay.
