ALLERGY ALERTUNDECLARED PEANUT PROTEIN IN HAITAI ALMOND CRACKEROTTAWA, January 16, 2003 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and T-Brothers Food & Trading Ltd., are warning consumers with allergies to peanut protein not to consume HAITAI Almond Cracker. This product may contain peanut protein that is not declared on the label. This alert is of concern to individuals with allergies to peanut protein. The affected product, HAITAI Almond Cracker, is sold in a 222 gram box with UPC 8 801019 300974. All codes of this product are affected by this alert. This product has been imported from Korea. The importer, T-Brothers Food & Trading Ltd., Delta B.C., is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. This product has been distributed in British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario. Consumption of this product may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to peanut protein. There has been one reported illness associated with the consumption of this product. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of this recall.
