ALLERGY ALERTUNDECLARED PECAN AND WALNUT IN ICE CREAM AND ICE MILK MANUFACTURED BY LAITERIE DE COATICOOK LTÉEOTTAWA, February 20, 2003 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Laiterie de Coaticook Ltée are warning consumers with allergies to pecan and/or walnut not to consume various flavours of ice cream and ice milk manufactured by Laiterie de Coaticook Ltée, Coaticook, Quebec. These products may contain pecan and/or walnut that are not declared on the label. The affected products are sold under various brand names, flavours, codes, and sizes as listed in the attached table. As the CFIA investigation continues, the attached table may be updated to include additional product information. The manufacturer is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. These products are known to have been distributed in Quebec but may have been distributed to other provinces in central Canada. Consumption of these products may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to pecan and/or walnut. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
