UPDATE - HEALTH HAZARD ALERTMINISTER ORDERS MANDATORY RECALL OF KID3.COM CAPSULES WHICH MAY CONTAIN MICROCYSTINSOTTAWA, June 4, 2003 - The Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, Honourable Lyle Vanclief, has issued a mandatory recall order for kid3.com capsules as they may contain microcystins. The mandatory recall order requires Deliteful Foods Inc., and any other person selling, marketing or distributing the affected product to recall it. On May 31, 2003, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a health hazard alert warning the public not to consume kid3.com capsules as they may contain microcystins. This health hazard alert can be viewed at: http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/corpaffr/recarapp/2003/20030531e.shtml The affected product, kid3.com, Now with Concentrated AFA Extract, is sold in a bottle containing 180 capsules, 250 mg. It bears a UPC 6 65806 01502 5. Only the lot code L:100-0204114, EXP: MAY 2006 is affected by this recall order. The affected product is manufactured for and distributed by Deliteful Foods Inc., Canmore, Alberta. This product is known to have been distributed in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Ontario, but may have been distributed nationally. Microcystins are natural toxins which can accumulate in the liver and can cause liver damage over the long term. Children are particularly at risk if they are exposed to the toxin in large amounts over an extended period of time. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.
