ALLERGY ALERT

PRIMO BEEF BARLEY HEARTY SOUPS MAY CONTAIN UNDECLARED EGG PROTEIN

Toronto, Ontario, July 23, 2003 – Primo Foods Co. is warning egg allergic consumers not to consume Primo Beef Barley Hearty Soups, in 525 ml cans, with the code date beginning with 3123H and UPC code 5590000557. The affected product may have been mislabelled and could be Roasted Chicken Soup, which is made with noodles containing egg protein not declared on the label. This alert is of concern to those individuals who have allergies to egg protein.

Only Primo Beef Barley Hearty Soups, in 525 ml cans, with the code date beginning with 3123H is affected by this alert. The code date is printed on the bottom of the can.

Primo Foods Co. is voluntarily recalling the product from the marketplace. This product has only been distributed at A&P, Dominion, Food Basics, Ultra Food & Drug and The Barn stores in Ontario.

Consumption of this product may cause a serious or life threatening reaction in persons with allergies to egg protein. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of the affected product.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is monitoring the effectiveness of this recall.
