Careers and Recruiting

The RCMP has three different categories of employees. Please click on the links below to find out more information.

Regular Members (police officers)

A great deal of care goes into the selection of RCMP cadets, as they will be responsible for safeguarding Canadian communities in a professional and upstanding manner throughout their careers. The selection process is rather long and fastidious because the RCMP must check the applicant's background, honesty, integrity and adaptability for police work.

In compliance with the Employment Equity Act, the RCMP is committed to promoting equity when dealing with applicants. Although all applications are considered, an applicant's chances of being selected vary according to the quality of his or her track record.

Applicants looking for a job rapidly, or who are unwilling to relocate should not apply. Only applicants highly motivated to work for the RCMP will complete all nine steps of the selection process, which lasts between 6 and 18 months.
