Gerry Braun joined the Royal Canadian Mounted police at Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1975. He has served in the provinces of Alberta, Ontario, British Columbia and Manitoba in a variety of progressively more responsible positions. He is a graduate of both the University of Manitoba and University of Calgary and holds Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Law degrees.

In February of 2004, Deputy Commissioner Braun was promoted to his present rank and is responsible for overseeing RCMP operations in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories. This area known as the North West Region of the RCMP is comprised of more than 6,300 employees distributed across the prairie provinces and Canada’s Arctic.

In 2002, he was promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner and posted to the position of Commanding Officer, responsible for RCMP operations in “D” Division, Manitoba. Manitoba RCMP operations consist of more than 1,100 employees working for public safety in Manitoba in a variety of programs including community policing, First Nations Policing and the RCMP’s federal policing programs.

His own career spans a range of experience from rural community policing to the investigation of complex commercial crimes and he has performed a range of duties from being on a tactical team to adjudicating internal disciplinary tribunals.

In addition to his experience in the RCMP, he has also served in the Privy Council Office of the Government of Canada as chief investigator on a Commission of Inquiry and with the Department of Justice, Canada, as a project manager.

Throughout his career he has emphasized professionalism, integrity, commitment, compassion and respect in the performance of his duties and he is dedicated to instilling and maintaining these values in the RCMP through his leadership.
