1NOTE: The 6 units selected must be primary samples taken
at random from throughout the load. Each sample unit must represent a different animal. In
other words, a single liver cut into 6 units of 250 grams would not meet the requirement.
Every sample must be individually wrapped.
Please note that the word "canned" refers to all types of hermetically sealed
containers.
2NOTE: "Every shipment" in the sampling frequency
column means every shipment designated for full inspection.
3NOTE: Samples of Brazilian chicken muscle, U.S.&
Mexican pork muscle and all fresh or frozen, not further processed, liver or kidney must
be sent to the CFIA Centre for Veterinary Drug Residues, Saskatoon.
NOTE: On the laboratory form CFIA 5164, specify Import Residues
Monitoring in the "Analysis Requested" section. Use the import control number as
the "Inspectors Sample No.".
Samples (other than raw livers and kidneys, Brazilian chicken meat and U.S.or Mexican
pork meat) are to be shipped to laboratories as indicated in the following table:

Fresh meat products kidney, liver and muscle will be analyzed for one or more of the
following: antibiotics, dimetridazole, heavy metals, hormones, pesticides, PCB, PCP,
sulfonamides and other residues.
Canned meat products will be analyzed for heavy metals, pesticides and PCB.
Prepared meat products will be analyzed for pesticides and PCB.
