Diversity Management and Official Languages Branch

Mission Statement

Diversity Management and Official Languages Branch ensures that RCMP practices in the areas of diversity and official languages are in support of federal government priorities, comply with all relevant statutes and laws, and enhance the special relationship of the RCMP with the communities it serves, and promote a healthy working environment in keeping with the RCMP mission, vision and mandate.

In support of this mission, the Branch is committed to the following mandates:

Human Rights Advisors

The Human Rights Advisors, in conformity with legislation, regulation, policy and overall RCMP objectives, manage the corporate response to human rights complaints against the RCMP; study human rights issues; conduct and initiate recommendations for changes to policies, regulations or procedures in the application, within the RCMP, of the Canadian Human Rights Act, including the equality rights provisions of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and related legislation. The Human Rights Advisors ensure all human rights related issues are addressed by the RCMP.

Official Languages Policy Centre

The Official Languages policy centre provides strategic orientation and coordination in support of the official languages program in the regions and divisions.

Under the Official Languages Act, the mandate of the policy centre covers service to the public, language of work, and the participation of English-speaking and French-speaking Canadians in the RCMP.

To carry out its responsibilities for the program, the policy centre develops and communicates policies and initiatives related to official languages and provides interpretations and support to managers and employees as required. Finally, the policy centre monitors the effective implementation of the official languages program in the regions and divisions; and prepares the Commissioner's annual report to Treasury Board.
