Policing expertise

The Canadian Bomb Data Centre (CBDC) is a centre of policing expertise on:

the criminal use of explosives;

safety measures to take against explosives;

detecting explosives;

rendering safe explosive devices;

disposing of explosives; and

investigating post-blast scenes.

A part of the RCMP’s Explosives Disposal and Technology Program, the CBDC is primarily a resource for Canadian and international police services and partner agencies engaged in combating the illegal use of explosives. Police services can consult with the experts at the CBDC for assistance, advice and access to an extensive library of information about explosives disposal and post-blast investigation. For more information, see Resources for Police Services.

Services for the public

The CBDC makes information available to businesses and individuals to help them develop response plans and procedures in case they receive a bomb threat or suspicious mail. See Information for Businesses and Individuals.

Statistics on the criminal use of explosives in Canada

We collect data from Canadian police services on the criminal use of explosives in Canada and produce an annual report of the statistics. See Reported Incidents – Criminal Use of Explosives in Canada.
