Pat McDonellMission Statement

The mission of the Criminal Intelligence Directorate is to provide a national program for the management of criminal information and intelligence which will permit the RCMP to detect and prevent crime having an organized, serious or national security dimension in Canada, or internationally as it affects Canada.

Timely and relevant criminal information and intelligence is the single greatest asset law enforcement has in order to detect, prevent and combat crime. In a nutshell, it is about building and sharing knowledge about criminal threats to increase public safety.

In our increasingly globalized world, shared intelligence is the glue that binds. This website is designed to provide you with information on the various components of the RCMP Criminal Intelligence Program that deal with crime that has organized, serious or national security dimensions in Canada or internationally, if it affects Canada, supported by a fully secure and integrated command and control centre. The program also includes responsibility for RCMP public order issues and the management of critical incidents. For more specific information on the various components, please see About CID.

The RCMP operational philosophy embraces the principles of intelligence-led policing, in pursuit of the overarching goal of "safe homes/safe communities". The recently adopted Criminal Operations Model builds on these principles; Criminal Intelligence occupies a key position, both as strategic support in establishing national enforcement priorities and as on-going tactical intelligence support to operations.

Intelligence is the end product of a process, based on the contribution of many. It is useful only if it is timely, relevant and widely shared among partners within the RCMP and with our partners domestically and internationally (of course, respecting the third party principle).

The success of the program, in many ways, hinges on how deeply our employees, partners and stakeholders understand it and how actively they participate in it, both as users of the various intelligence products and as active contributors to the process. To achieve this goal, I encourage you first of all, to spend some time getting know the contents of this website.
