In an effort to learn more about hepatitis C as a disease, the
medical and research
component of the national Hepatitis C Program supports the education
and motivation of those affected by the disease, including care and treatment
providers, in order to increase awareness and action.
The medical component contributes to enhancing the health and well-being
of these persons by delaying the progression of the disease and improving
their awareness of and access to care, treatment and support.
Research is also required to bridge the gap between what is currently
known about hepatitis C and what has yet to be discovered to be effective
in prevention and treatment.
