Mackenzie Valley Resource Management Act
(M-0.2)

| Links | Print

Description:
The Mackenzie Valley Resource Management Act provides for an integrated system of land and water management in the Mackenzie Valley. (The Act follows from the Gwich'in Comprehensive Land Claim and the Sahtu Dene and Metis Land Claim agreements, which require the establishment of land use planning and land and water boards for affected Settlement Areas.)

Part V creates the Mackenzie Valley Environmental Impact Review Board (whose members must be half First Nations-nominated) as the main body for environmental assessment and environmental impact review of developments.

Part VI provides for environmental monitoring and audit every five years to review the effectiveness of methods and regulations applied, with the aim of protecting key components of the environment from significant adverse impact.
