1 Includes sampling done by both the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Agricorp, an Ontario Crown Corporation that is collecting samples from the Niagara Quarantine Area and other isolated quarantine areas.

1. Survey Activities in Ontario

Summer blasted into Niagara bringing hot, humid conditions with sampling going full tilt despite quite a few rainy days. Budwood/mother block sampling is almost complete, and the majority of Stoney Creek and Fonthill homeowners have been sampled. Orchards and homeowners in Vittoria will be sampled next week.

As of July 4, 2003, CFIA has confirmed 348 AGRICORP detections, all in the Niagara Quarantine Area, affecting 11 growers.

2. Survey Activities in Nova Scotia

Surveys of commercial orchards are continuing for a fourth year in Nova Scotia. Surveying began in the Annapolis quarantine area on June 16th, 2003. As of now, 1,313 samples were collected in 30 blocks. So far, no sample has been found positive.

3. Survey Activities in British Columbia

The general detection survey began on May, 2003 The survey was completed on June 6th, 2003. In total 1427 samples were collected from 31 blocks belonging to 4 nurseries. Plum pox virus was not detected in any samples tested. PPV has never been found in the Province of British Columbia.

4. Survey Activities in Quebec

The general detection survey in Quebec began on June and is still ongoing. As of now, 10 samples collected from 5 blocks have been analyzed. All samples are negative. PPV has never been found in Quebec.
