Request for Full-Scale Applications - New Initiative
Global Health Research Initiative (GHRI) - HIV/AIDS Prevention Trials Capacity Building Grants:
An Initiative funded by CIDA as part of a collaborative health program of work developed by the Global Health Research Initiative

The GHRI invites applications from teams of Canadian and African researchers who are interested in building capacity in conducting research related to HIV/AIDS prevention trials. The goal of the Program is to build the capacity in African institutions to conduct HIV/AIDS prevention trials by supporting the development of both new and existing partnerships between African and Canadian research teams. The focus of the grants will be to build and enhance individual and institutional competencies required to conduct high quality research, and to build site capacity to conduct planned and anticipated trials in Africa, in particular related to research on and development of prophylactic vaccines, microbicides and other preventive interventions.

Funding Opportunities through GHRI's Partner Organizations

Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). Since 2002 CIHR has recognized Global Health Research as a priority under it's Initiative in Global Health Research. In addition to its partnership with GHRI organizations, CIHR also offers other programming relevant to the global health research community. CIHR Initiative in Global Health Research in partnership with IPPH. Priority Announcement - Fellowship Award. The purpose of this Priority Announcement is to improve Canada's ability to investigate and intervene on those underlying forces that challenge global health, by enhancing, in a sustainable manner, the capacity of national and international researchers and research-users to collaboratively develop and apply global health knowledge for evidence-based public health practice. Full application packages must be courier stamped by February 1, 2006.

The Canada-HOPE Scholarship Progam. The HOPE Program aims to further develop international collaborative efforts between researchers. The Program enables promising scientists and clinicians from Low and Middle Income Countries to be exposed to some of the best science, laboratories and training environments in Canada. Registrations must be courier stamped by January 16, 2006.

CCGHR 3rd Summer Institute for New Global Health Researchers
July 9 - 15, 2006
Instituto Nacional de Salud Pública, Cuernavaca, Mexico
Pairs of researchers - one from a lower- or middle-income country (LMIC) and one from Canada - who are members of the same project or program team, are encouraged to apply to this 5 day training opportunity to be held in Cuernavaca, Mexico. In 2006, special preference will be given those researchers who have not yet participated in a CCGHR Summer Institute. Applications are due by March 15, 2006.
