Summary | |
The goal of this priority announcement is to announce funding of up to four Master's Awards in the area of prevention and mitigation of injuries arising from motor vehicle accidents including musculoskeletal, whiplash, chronic pain and disability. |
The Institute of Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis is dedicated to identifying and developing collaborations with other CIHR institute(s), branch(es) or office(s), funding organizations and stakeholders to enhance the availability of funding in their strategic research priority areas and to create, where appropriate, opportunities for knowledge exchange and translation related to the scope of these priority areas. Applicants are invited to visit the Descriptions of Partners to find a list of partners and their respective mandates and/or strategic interests. This list will continue to evolve as new partners join. The specific research foci and requirements for each partner are outlined in the section "Relevant Research Areas".
CIHR will fully fund all research scoring above its regular funding threshold, subject to the availability of funds for this initiative. CIHR and the partners will pay for meritorious awards identified by the partner as relevant to their research area and scoring below the CIHR funding threshold (in rank order) but above the merit cut-off (3.5). All the awards above and below the CIHR funding threshold will hold both the name of the partner and CIHR.
The objective of this priority announcement is to announce funding of up to four Master's Awards in the area of prevention and mitigation of injuries arising from motor vehicle accidents.
Relevant Research Areas
The Canadian Institute for the Relief of Pain and Disability in conjunction with CIHR will fund applications that are determined to be relevant to the research priority areas described below:
The research focus must address one of the following areas related to the above themes:
The applicants are expected to work under the supervision of eligible AUTO21 investigators. There are over 220 researchers participating through 32 Universities across Canada. Cross discipline research is encouraged.
Relevance of the applications to the research priorities will be determined in the following manner:
Prior to peer review, the Institute of Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis and the Canadian Institute for the Relief of Pain and Disability will review applications to determine the relevance, or alignment, of the proposed research to the research priority areas described above.
To conduct relevance review, these representatives will have access to the completed relevance form, (see "How to Apply"), anonymized project titles and summaries provided that applicants have indicated their consent on the "Applicant Consent Form for Use and Disclosure of Personal Information Provided to CIHR for Peer Review," which is included in the application forms.
Upon completion of peer review, the Institute of Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis and the Canadian Institute for the Relief of Pain and Disability will receive the ratings, rankings and peer review committee recommendations on funding level and award term for those applications that 1) are found to be relevant to the specific objectives of the research initiative and the research priority areas described under "Relevant Research Areas"; and 2) are rated within the CIHR fundable range but are not funded through the regular CIHR competition to which they were submitted. These applications will be funded from the top down in order of ranking as far as budgets will allow. Applications that receive a ranking below 3.5 will not be funded.
The relevance review occurs apart from the peer review (scientific review) and has no relationship to the results of peer review. Peer review committees will not be informed of applications submitted for funding through this announcement.
Eligibility criteria for all CIHR research funding programs apply. The business office of the institution of an eligible Nominated Principal Applicant generally administers CIHR funds. Please refer to the Eligibility Requirements for CIHR Grants and Awards regarding the eligibility requirements for individuals and institutions.
Specific to CIHR training awards, please refer to the General Guidelines for Training Programs as well as the Canada Graduate Scholarships - Master's Awards program description.
