Recruiting — Technical Operations

Technical Operations has over 200 employees engaged in providing front-line officers and policing partners with technological tools and expertise to help prevent and investigate crime.

Our work includes researching technologies, developing and implementing technological solutions, developing policy and consulting — a wide variety of responsibilities that focus on policing technologies.

While some of the employees in Technical Operations are uniformed police officers, other employees are civilian members of the RCMP and members of the federal public service.

Our staff includes specialists in security, engineering and computer science. If you have graduate or post-graduate education and expertise in security, engineering or computer science, consider applying to the RCMP. Please note your interest in Technical Operations when you apply.

Applicants selected for possible employment will undergo a security and suitability background investigation.

Air Services

The RCMP's Air Services has both fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft in the fleet. The fixed-wing aircraft include Pilatus PC12s, Twin Otters, Cessna Caravans and an Avanti P180.The rotary-wing aircraft include Bell helicopters and AS350 helicopters.

Air Services hires pilots, aircraft maintenance engineers and avionics technicians experienced in either fixed-wing or rotary-wing aircraft to work for the RCMP's air services program. Pilots and engineers interested in working for Air Services must be Canadian citizens and be willing to be posted anywhere in Canada, including northern Canada.

Those considered for employment as pilots must also have:

at least 3000 hours of flight experience;

a current Ministry of Transport medical certificate and licence;

a valid instrument rating (fixed-wing pilots only).

Those considered for employment as aircraft maintenance engineers (AMEs) or avionics technicians must also have:

successful completion of a Canadian college program (or equivalent) in aircraft maintenance engineering or avionics technology, including a diploma from the college;

a valid M1 or M2 licence (AMEs) or E-type licence (avionics technicians);

at least five years experience maintaining aircraft similar to those flown by the RCMP.

Applicants selected for possible employment will also undergo a security and suitability background investigation.

Behavioural Sciences

Most of the specialists working in the investigative behavioural sciences programs such as criminal profiling, geographic profiling, truth verification and the identification of serial criminals through analysis of reports on violent crime are police officers with experience and specialized training in the investigation of violent crime. Those interested in such work should expect to become a police officers and gain experience in all aspects of policing including the investigation of major cases.

Co-op Program

Technical Operations has a co-op program for students in engineering, security, computer science and related technologies. Students interested in a co-op term with us should contact the co-op coordinators at their post-secondary institution.

Technological Crime

Most of the specialists working in the technological crime program are police officers with experience and specialized training in the forensic investigation of computers and digital devices. If you are interested in such work, you should expect to become a police officer and gain experience in all aspects of policing including the investigation of technological crime.

Some employees in the Technological Crime program are civilian members of the RCMP or members of the federal public service. These employees have backgrounds in computer engineering and related fields. If you have graduate or post-graduate education and expertise in computer engineering, consider applying to the RCMP.
