RON WIEBE RESTORATIVE JUSTICE AWARD
2006 NOMINATION PACKAGE

The Correctional Service of Canada's Restorative Justice and Dispute Resolution Branch is pleased to announce that it is accepting nominations for the 2006 Ron Wiebe Restorative Justice Award. This award was established in honour of the late Ron Wiebe, former CSC Warden, for his outstanding commitment and leadership in the field of restorative justice.

The award is presented annually to an individual or group who meets the following criteria:

  • models restorative justice principles in the service of justice and peace; and
  • demonstrates, through their work or lifestyle, ways of transforming human relations by enabling and promoting communication and healing between people in conflict, be they victims, offenders, colleagues, families or neighbours.

The 2006 recipient will be announced at the Ron Wiebe Award Ceremony, to be scheduled during Restorative Justice Week, November 12-19, 2006 (venue to be determined).

Closing date for submission of nominations: June 27, 2006

YOUR NOMINATION PACKAGE MUST INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION:

  1. The Nomination Application (PDF)
  2. Overview that includes (no more than two (2) doubled-spaced pages): general information about the individual or group being nominated; and information about how their work demonstrates restorative justice in action in line with the criteria.
  3. Three (3) letters of support that convey the nominee's achievements as they relate to the award criteria. Please note that the letters of support should not come from nominee(s) or their family members. For letters of support, consideration should be given to how the individual or group has:
    • demonstrated their understanding and commitment to the values of restorative justice;
    • advanced the principles of restorative justice;
    • made a difference in the lives of other individuals and/or the community at large;
    • promoted communication and healing in their program, service or community work; and/or
    • utilized inclusive and collaborative processes in their work.
  4. A photo of the nominee (which is used in a presentation of all nominees at the Ron Wiebe Award Ceremony, not for selection purposes).
