Partnerships with Not-for-Profit Health Organizations
Voluntary health organizations were key to the establishment of
CIHR in 2000 and continue to play a vital role in supporting the vision of the organization on various levels. Representatives from these organizations sit on all thirteen Institute Advisory Boards, they partner with
CIHR to co-fund various research initiatives and they are consulted on issues of mutual interest. The
President's Voluntary Sector Committee is one such vehicle, which provides the opportunity for an ongoing dialogue between
CIHR and key representatives of health charities.
As a federal agency, CIHR must abide by the Voluntary Sector Accord, a framework that represents a public commitment by the Government of Canada and the voluntary sector to more open, transparent, consistent and collaborative ways for the two sectors to work together.
CIHR is proud of its Small Health Organizations Partnership Program (SHOPP) which aims at increasing the research funding capacity of small not-for-profit organizations by co-funding training and salary awards. For more information on these partnering opportunities contact the Partnership Branch.
