GEDIS Value Added Processing

This diagram illustrates an example of GEDIS value added processing. A single electronic data feed from a headquarters' application is automatically processed through the GEDIS. GEDIS processes the file, splitting and reformatting the data into multiple regional files. Each regional file can be in a different data format and each regional link can be via a different communication protocol.

Application Overview

An example of how the GEDIS provides value added processing to client applications is the Receiver General's (RG) Bill Payment System (BPS). The data flow through the GEDIS is illustrated in the diagram. The BPS information collection process receives the data from Financial Institutions in various media and turns it into electronic data. The electronic information from the BPS is sent to the GEDIS in one common format. The BPS process is simplified in part due to the single output file.

The GEDIS processes the data by routing it to each departmental application. The target application format can vary from department to department depending upon specific requirements. The GEDIS provides the functionality of splitting and formatting for each receiving application interface. For legacy system interfaces that require more specific character coding different from that provided in the BPS feed, the GEDIS could translate to the required coding.

In addition to a single department feed, the GEDIS can also provide data splitting within an application. For example, regions within department 'A' may have different requirements. Headquarters may need the financial information from the BPS feed and regions may need only the program information. It may even be possible that each of the regions require different data formats. The process in the GEDIS will separate the master file into the applicable regional application formats with a simple, straight-forward interface.

The entire GEDIS process is fully automated and runs without human intervention. The service provides flexibility at the system application level and provides immediate updated information, including email status notification, to all users at all locations at a reduced cost.

By utilizing the GEDIS both the RG and the departments interface is simplified and streamlined.
