Did you know that October is Women’s History Month in Canada?  The Government of Canada established this special month in 1992.  It provides an opportunity to learn more about women’s history and their contributions to Canadian society.

THEME

Aboriginal Women: The Journey Forward

The objectives of Women’s History Month 2006 are to make Canadians aware of Aboriginal women’s contributions to Canada, to their communities and to their families. It is also intended to promote understanding of the realities of Aboriginal women’s lives and the unique challenges they face.

This year marks a number of significant anniversaries: the 25^th anniversary of Canada's ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), the 15^th anniversary of the establishment of the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples and the 10^th anniversary of the release of the final report of the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples, People to People, Nation to Nation.

The poster (publication # 06-G-004) can be ordered on-line. The brochure is no longer available for order. There is a limit of 50 per school, 20 per organization or 2 per individual. Please note that these products are also available on this Web site and for download in Acrobat 5*.
