Starting Post-Secondary Education

There are many decisions that need to be made when you decide to pursue post-secondary education. Service Canada has prepared a checklist for you to help make the process easier.

1. Research Different Career Options

Use CanLearn’s Student Planner to help you discover your occupational interests and plan your career.

2. Choose a Post-Secondary Institution

Find the educational institution or program that is right for you at Youth.gc.ca.  

3. Apply for Funding

Get information about federal, provincial and territorial student loans programs from CanLearn.  

There are also a variety of scholarships and bursaries available to students.   The Youth.gc.ca Web site has organized these scholarships by location.

4. Research Options for Student Housing

Browse the Youth.gc.ca Web site to learn more about student-friendly housing alternatives.

5. Find Work Opportunities for Students

Earn money while you study.  The Student Job Bank posts Canadian jobs daily specifically for students.

You may also want to research co-operative education programs to earn money while you study, and internships to get a head start on your career.

Apprenticeships also offer you a unique opportunity to be paid while working towards certification in a trade.
