Further Support for Breast Cancer Research

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the Canadian Breast Cancer Research Initiative (CBCRI) are pleased to announce that CIHR, one of the CBCRI partners, will reopen its operating grant's competitions to applications in the area of breast cancer research. Effective immediately, breast cancer researchers can apply to CIHR beginning with its March 2002 competition.

This change follows a formal request made to CIHR from the Board of Directors and Management Committee of CBCRI. While details remain to be worked out over the weeks ahead, CIHR and CBCRI understand the importance of notifying the breast cancer research community about this opportunity as soon as possible.

To be eligible for CIHR's March 2002 competition, applicants will have to meet CIHR's mandatory deadlines:

  • February 1, 2002 registration deadline; and

  • March 1, 2002 submission of full applications.

CIHR and CBCRI welcome this opportunity to further support breast cancer research in Canada.

Alan Bernstein, Ph.D., FRSC
President of CIHR
