Benchmarking Your Farm: Getting Started
- First, select a farm profile you would like to compare your operation against. You have the choice of region, size of operation and commodity group.
- Then, it is simply a matter of entering some basic financial information into the worksheet provided.
- After following a few easy steps, your results are automatically calculated, providing you with your benchmark report.
Two versions of the 2003 "Benchmark for Success" financial benchmarking tool are currently available on this web-site. A 2006 version of the tool will soon be available for download. The improvements to this latest tool will include updated data, new revenue and production categories and a bonus financial management tutorial.
- Step-by-step version (opens new window)
This version takes you through the financial statements line by line or by sub-section. You are guided thorough the process with information and instruction along the way. You will need the latest Flash plug-in.
- Forms-based version
Those familiar with financial statements may prefer this version. There are two forms to fill out: a simplified income statement and a balance sheet.
This report should be seen as the first step to assessing your farm's financial performance. More thorough analysis can be conducted by your local agricultural office.
